Booper

The premise

The question underneath it is not a small one: if AI and machines take over everything, what do humans do? The answer the film offers is booping, a word my family uses for hanging out and not doing very much. The subject is Martin, and the piece treats his vocation with the straight face of a nature documentary, compressed into a minute.

The look

The aesthetic came out of research in Midjourney, where I kept landing on yarn and knitted textures that had a light, whimsical quality I wanted to chase. I developed that into Martin, then used Magnific Spaces as the central hub to hold the character and the world together, generating frames with Nano Banana and animating in Kling.

Directing a doc that never happened

Because the piece is documentary in form, I used Claude to generate a wide range of B-roll scenarios for Martin’s day, then batch-processed video from them. What came back was footage, and the job from there was exactly the job of cutting a doc: watch everything, keep the takes with life in them, and build a one-minute piece out of the best of it. Suno scored it and ElevenLabs voiced it.

Drift taught me to cast engines by what they do well. Booper taught me something else: that generative tools reward a documentary posture. Rather than forcing one perfect shot, generate coverage, then edit like you have rushes. That is a producer’s instinct more than a prompter’s.
